American cartoonist Gary Larson was born on August 14, 1950. For fifteen years, his single-panel comic series The Far Side was syndicated worldwide to over 1,900 newspapers. Larson’s retirement on January 1, 1995, marked the end of the series. His website hinted at a “new online era of The Far Side” in September 2019. Larson’s first comic book releases in 25 years were three new ones on July 8, 2020.Sales of his twenty-three volumes including collected cartoons have exceeded forty-five million copies in total.
